As I’m reading the Word this morning, I am reminded of how difficult it can be to delve into some of the Old Testament books. But the old adage is true, many things that are worth doing are not easy.
Buried within the book of Micah, one of the OT minor prophets (a contemporary with Hosea and Isaiah), we find great encouragement…
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
God never changes. Yes, the Old Testament may be filled with what we would often call the wrath of God but is it fair to survey thousands of years where His people were reckless and disobedient and zero in on the punishment?
What if we took the 18 years of our children’s lives and ignored all the goodness and mercy and only focused on the times when we were driven to discipline them for their good?
The requirement of God has always been to be just, loving and kind.
