Prostitution and the Bride of Christ

bride_of_christ_hahlbohm_l_kekiImagine, that you are engaged to be married to the love of your life.  You buy your fiancé every great thing they desire.  Rings, jewels, expensive dinners and cars.  Every whim is granted to them.  You love them with every fiber of your being.  However, it turns out that this isn’t enough.  You learn that you are one of many who are treating your soon to be bride to these pleasures.  She is just a common whore, giving her body over to any man who provides her with wealth and comfort.

Now, imagine for a moment that You are God.  You have created a people and your desire is for them to live happily, abundantly and love You with abandon.  So, You give and You give.  You provide them with amazing gifts like great tasting food, drink and entertainment.  You allow them the freedom to do whatever they want, in the hopes that they will choose You above all of those things You created.  Imagine, that the freedom You provided in love was taken to the extreme, and abused to a point where these people, Your body, Your soon to be bride, are now whoring themselves out to the pleasures of the world – the very same world that You gave to them.

This is the truth of God’s plight.  His heart aches for His bride.  If this truly were you, you would have divorced, or called off this engagement a long time ago.  We are His bride, yet we call Him Lord and love the world.  We title Him master, but we treat Him like a slave.  We give Him our hearts, but only for a moment.

He has called us to be salt and light – but we have become a dark, tasteless stain.  We have turned His gift of salvation into a magical prayer to save us from damnation.  Just like everything else we do, it is selfish and with ill motive.  Oh, death where is your sting?  The better question is “Oh, bride where is your heart?”

Do you seek His face or only His hand?  Are you after His heart strings or His purse strings?  Rich men suffer a great injustice… to never truly know the motives of your fiancé’s  “love” – no different is God, the richest of all.  His streets: Gold.  His flesh: rubies and diamonds.  What is your motivation for calling yourself by His Name?  Prestige?  Cause surely there is none.  You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. Matthew 10:22. Earthly wealth and prosperity?  Dead men don’t have pockets.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20.

If you love the world, you can’t love Jesus. No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24

It is time to rise up and return to our first love.  “Look how far you have fallen from your first love! Turn back to me again and work as you did at first.” Revelation 2:5

The scariest verse in the Bible is Revelation 3:16.  God literally says “If you don’t love Me with passion then you make Me sick!” (my paraphrase)  –  The thought of making God sick makes me sick.  Join me in the effort to return to our first love.  I want to be passionate about JESUS!
