Gotta Have Faith. Even George Michael Knew That.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

What is faith?  The Bible talks about faith so much that sometimes we almost ignore it.  We talk about having faith in God.  Faith is the core of what we believe.  But, what is it?

Faith is something the world doesn’t understand.   To the world it’s a copout.  To the world it’s a crutch.  To the world it’s an excuse for us to not have answers to their questions.  “Who made God?  Where did He come from?”  Our answer is that you must have faith that He has always been.

To us, faith is everything.  Without it we are nothing.  Without it we have no leg to stand on.  Faith is being sure of what we hope for.  What do we hope for?  The second coming of Christ.  Healing.  Deliverance.  Salvation.  Wellness.

One of my favorite verses talks about faith.  James 1:5 says, 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;

You don’t see the word faith in the passage but it’s there.  What does this man lack?  Wisdom.  When he asks for it, he then puts hope in the fact that he’ll get it.  Faith is being sure that God will deliver.

Hope is clutching at straws.  Hope means there’s a chance it won’t happen.  But when you mix faith and hope you get assurance.

Webster, the writer of the dictionary believed that God’s sole purpose for him was to define the english language.  I love to preach out of the dictionary because it was written by a Godly man with a Godly purpose.

Faith is defined in his dictionary as:

allegiance to duty or a person
fidelity to one’s promises
belief and trust in and loyalty to God
belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion:
firm belief in something for which there is no proof
complete trust

I love all six of them, but my favorite is the last one. COMPLETE TRUST.

Having faith in God means you trust Him completely.  I feel like I should post the definition of the word complete as well but I don’t want to insult anyone’s intelligence.  So, to completely trust in God means that;  When you lose your job, you have faith.  You trust.  God is your source, not the job.  When your marriage goes awry, you have faith.  You trust.  God will restore.  When your home goes into foreclosure, you have faith.  You trust.  God was not surprised.  He has a plan.  When you lose a loved one, you have faith.  You trust.  His glory will be revealed.

In all things we must have faith – COMPLETE TRUST in God.  He is awesome.  He knows the beginning from the end.  He was here before time began and He will be here long after all things have passed away.  He created everything seen and unseen.  He knew every second of your life, eons and eons ago, before the earth was even created.  He knows all and sees all.  He is never surprised.  He will never fail you.  He doesn’t take breaks or slumber.  His eye is always on those who He loves.

You are special.  Unique.  The apple of God’s eye.  He has a personal passion for you.  He wants to see you step into the blessing He has laid aside for you.  You have been made with a purpose.  You are not a mistake.  You weren’t your parents idea, you were God’s idea.  He wants you to shake the world.

Have faith that the work He has started in you He will be faithful to complete.  You aren’t too old, too young, too stupid or too smart.  You are the right man for the job.  You aren’t a second choice, you are the first.  You aren’t the backup plan, you are plan A.  You are God’s ambassador.  You are His mouthpiece.  He desires to wear you like a glove.

God loves you and so do I.
